Photo guide

About 10 minutes a room. Good photos mean a faster, more accurate register. Photos only, no video.

Before you start

  • Location offSwitch off location tagging on your camera so your photos don't record where you live. iPhone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Camera > Never. Android: open the Camera app > Settings > turn off Location tags. You can switch it back on afterwards.
  • LightingTurn on all lights and open curtains. Don't photograph straight into a bright window.
  • PhoneNormal phone camera settings are fine. Clean the lens. Hold the phone steady so photos aren't blurry.
  • One room at a timeFinish one room before starting the next. Start each room with a photo of a piece of paper showing the room name.

In each room (about 10–25 photos)

  • Wide shotsStand in each corner and take one photo of the whole room (4 photos).
  • Each wallTake one photo of each wall or section, so every piece of furniture is clearly visible.
  • Close-upsTake a close-up of anything valuable or branded (TVs, appliances, tools, art, designer items), plus any brand label or model sticker.
  • StorageOpen wardrobes and cupboards you want included and take a photo inside each.
  • Don't zoom in with the camera.Step closer instead.

Uploading

  • Room by roomUpload one room at a time through your private link, starting each room with the photo of the room name. You can upload in several goes; nothing is lost.
  • Missing anything?Note any areas you didn't photograph (garage, roof space, locked cabinet) in the upload form.

Please don't photograph

  • Private informationPeople, family photos, ID documents, bank cards, letters or mail, medication labels, passwords, alarm panels or keys. Close drawers that hold these.
